Here is my answer to one reader.
Dear India,
I blogging about MY own experience of sexwork in Sweden.
I never worked as a prostitute in any other country.
My question is: Since those pimps had never harassed or threated myself, so why i should believe in their existence?
Sweden is very different from other countries. We haven’t this prostitution /pimping-culture, what you have in other countries.
Hidden prostitution had always existed in Scandinavia .
This is not the same prostitution what you have in other part of the world. No one starving here.
Typical swedish/scandinavian secret prostitute is a single mother in her 30s-40s. She have some other (often bad paid) job and need money to buy some expensive stuff for children and for herself. New clothes or computer stuff, or else.
Children who have cheap old clothes, old cheap mobilephones or old computers are bullied in the scools.
Because of the protestant puritanic ethic in North-Europe about 95% of swedish prostitutes felt/feel ashamed to pick up clients on the streets.
In the Pre-Internet era they used to advertise sex-services on different pornmags . Now they (we) advertize across escort websites .
Only 5 or 6 % of all swedish/scandinavian prostitutes was/are streetwalkers Either they are heroinists who need fast cash or scoolgirls who fleed from homes and has nowhere to go.
About 95% of prostitution in Sweden was and are hidden.
As I mentioned before, I never worked at the street and have no experience about that. Streetwalkers are very vulnerable and work in very dangerouse conditions.
I haven’t experience on street prostitution and can’t say do they have pimps or not.
Almost all of swedish journalists and naive-but-well-meaned pros-activists ( for example Petra Ostrågen ) have not much information about that. They think that all swedish prostitution existed only on the street before Swedish anti-pros law.
”…do you believe that maybe somewhere underground, this may be happening, somewhere were they are hidden so you cannot meet them? Dont you think that these women from trafficking are undercovered, so nobody knows they exist?”
As an atheist, I not believe in that what i have never seen. I believe only my experience .
One mad swedish psychologist drivel about systematic ritual mass murder of babies in Sweden.
If I should believe in the myth of sexslavery in Sweden then I must believe in the ritual mass murder of babies too?
As far I know, sexslavery had existed many thousand years, long before our western civilisation and long before eastbloc collapsing. I have read in some historical books how 8-9 y.o. girls been sold by their own parents to brothels, raped and coerced to prostitution . It happend in Middle Ages and long before that..
Of course this is horrible.
But , again, my blog is about my own experiences working in Sweden today.
I believe, coercion to prostitution still exist in many poor countries, but not in Scandinavia.
A real sexslaves have a handcuff while kept behind the locked door. No one punter have seen scenes like that in Sweden.
One of my swedish clients told me he served as a UN-soldier in Egypt in 70-s and visited some brothel there. He gave money to brothel owner and after that he comes into a locked room . Behind the locked door he met very young girl. She was a real sexslave. This man still feel bad after that.
”… but i do believe that prostitution cannot be a good thing, for the health of the woman, physically, emotionally and mentally.”
You are full of generalisations. As for myself, it is quite the opposite - I feel depressed when I sitting at home by my own. And I feel much better when I meet other people.
I went into prostitution looking for Love, not money.
Unpaid sex ? I proved unpaid casual dates couple of times and I really hate it.
In free sex men used my body as a Rubber Doll.
I hate feelingsless casual dates. I felt myself sexually exploited and offended while having unpaid sex. Simply guys does NOT respect unpaid women ! It’s true.
I tried to be a lesbian feminist about 10 years ago.But those feminists treated me as a leper, never invited to their parties, never talked to me after meetings. They used the same opressor’ tactic toward me what they accused men of.
Now when i got paid for sex I feel myself more appreciated and respected.
” As a woman, i believe that man should be man enough to just give the money, charity”
I have a good regular job and I don’t need any charity.
All I need is love.
Of course i’m very fussy. I use to choose my clients very carefully.
And i didn’t do it more than once or twice a week.
How about You?
If you are paid for your job then you are a prostitute yourself,
Nothing wrong with that. We are all prostitutes.
